The region of the Mugello and the High Mugello is one of the undiscovered secrets of Italy with deep valleys, high mountain passes and swift running rivers it provides a wonderful alpine environment in which to live and to visit.

Local Facilities and Transport |

The local town of Firenzuola – a medieval new town - has a very old Castle as its heart - which is the centre for the area, has very good schools and medical facilities, Several supermarkets and grocers and wine shops., There are also flowers shops, clothes shops, newsagents, builders merchants, garages and petrol station. The town is serviced by a regular bus service to Florence and to Imola.
By car Bologna airport is one hour and a quarter from the house and Florence and Pisa airports are about one and a half hours and two hours respectively. There are train connections from Imola and Florence to all over Europe. |

Horse riding, horse rearing and breeding is also very famous here and trekking in the hills is a long tradition. |

There are hundreds of signposted footpaths winding their way over and through the mountains with wonderful walking and fantastic views. |

If two wheeled machines are of interest the Giro d’Italia often passes close by and the mountain tracks and roads are very good for mountain biking and off-road activites. |

The motor enthusiast has always been attracted to the Mugello – with its proximity to the Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Ducati museums, together with the Mugello racecircuit for the Motor G.P. and the Imola grand prix circuit it follows in a long tradition of motor enthusiast interest with the route of the Mille Miglia running through Firenzuola and many motor rallies and hill climbs taking place through out the year. |

The area has many different local traditional crafts that still continue today. The production of cutlery has been carried out for many centuries as has the extraction of a stone, Pietra Serena used for architectural projects all over the world. Together with ceramics, embroidery, basketry and leather goods there are many things to choose from. |

The most famous products of the Mugello apart from truffles are porcini mushrooms and chestnuts. The chestnuts harvested here are considered to be the best in Europe and they have the additional advantage of clothing the mountainside with beautifully kept chestnut woods which provide shade and tranquillity during the hot summer months. With a wide selection of cooked meats, cheeses, fruit and vegetables and good wine and oil it is possible to dine very well. |

A land of flavours and excellent agricultural produce. Mugello delights lovers of good food. There is a large selection of wine and oil to be tried and tasted and an excellent choice of cheeses. Meat here is fantastic and the local farmers pride themselves on the quality of their meat especially their beef. Fruit and vegetables are grown in profusion and peaches, apricots and cherries can all be bought by the side of the road in season. Or picked from our own orchard. |

Villas, Castles and Gardens |

Steeped in history it contains many Castles and Medici palaces and over one hundred historical gardens large and small examples of how nature and art can be perfectly mixed. The most well known of these were designed and built by the Medici in the XVth and XV1th centuries. All of them well worth a visit. |
